Qlik®, a global frontrunner in data integration and analytics, has pledged its alliance as a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. This new independent cloud service, aimed at bolstering European digital autonomy, is set to debut in Brandenburg, Germany, by late 2025.
By leveraging the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, Qlik’s comprehensive data and analytics solutions will become accessible across Europe. This framework promises to integrate European data residency with the formidable security and availability standards of AWS. This strategic move ensures that Qlik's offerings align with the stringent EU mandates on operational autonomy and data residency.
According to Mike Capone, CEO of Qlik, the deployment of their service on this new cloud signifies a major advancement for organisations seeking AI-powered outcomes while maintaining control over their data. Capone underscored the importance of offering trusted AI solutions in collaboration with AWS’s sovereign-by-design architecture.
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will offer an entire suite of services, independently operated, featuring robust technical controls and sovereignty assurances tailored for European stakeholders. Notably, it will function independently from other AWS Regions, ensuring data autonomy for participants.
Day-to-day management of the new cloud will be in the hands of AWS employees residing within the EU. They will manage tasks such as data centre operations and technical support. This assures clients that AWS remains committed to not accessing customer data without explicit consent.
Consistent with its current operations, Qlik Cloud will preserve customer access controls in the European environment. For this sovereign deployment, Qlik’s EU-based team will handle operations and support, enhancing customer service.
Furthermore, Qlik’s encryption key features will align with EU guidelines, providing customers the flexibility to manage data access and encryption consistent with their internal policies.
Highlighting its commitment to European sovereignty, Qlik is expanding its capabilities following the launch of the Qlik France Region, designed to cater to French data residency norms. Anticipated enhancements include BSI C5 certification in Germany and an alignment with several regulatory controls such as NIS2 (EU) by 2026, among others.
