ZTE partners with China Mobile

ZTE says that it is one of the first of eleven partners in the China Mobile 5G Joint Innovation Lab (5G JIL for short), which officially launched at the Global time-division long-term evolution (TD-LTE) Initiative (GTI) Summit held during Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona.

The 5G JIL aims to draw on multiple resources from across the industry in order to facilitate 4G-to-5G evolution and create a virtuous circle for innovation. China Mobile has plans to create more opportunities for cooperation across different industries in areas rich in potential such as basic communications, Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Vehicles (IoV), Industrial Internet, Cloud Robotics, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR).

The 5G JIL will build a central lab in Beijing, and regional labs in the China Mobile International Information Port, Qingdao, Chongqing among other locations. China Mobile and its partners will actively take part in 5G tests organised by the IMT-2020(5G) promotion group in China, to promote 5G candidate technology validation, standards development, and industrial chain construction. Meanwhile, China Mobile will cooperate with the GTI, GSMA, NGMN and other international organisations, to expand partners and cooperation.

As one of  China Mobile’s first key partners, ZTE is committed to participating in all the lab’s activities including the promotion of 4G evolution, 5G standardisation, infrastructure construction, and product and application platform development.

“The launch of the 5G JIL will deepen and broaden ZTE’s partnership with China Mobile taking it to a higher level. By virtue of the lab, Chinese enterprises will be given more say and play a greater role in global 5G standardisation and industrialisation,” said Zhao Xianming, Executive Vice President of ZTE.
