Colt is now providing support for IBM’s Direct Link services allowing enterprise customers to establish a private network connection from their own IT infrastructure to the IBM Cloud. Direct Link services are being rolled out globally and available in Europe using Colt’s private network services.

Direct Link enables hybrid cloud computing by giving customers the ability to manage access to their infrastructure and services, the speed of their connection as well as how data is routed. Other key benefits include:
  • Higher network performance consistency and predictability
  • Streamlined and accelerated workload and data migration
  • Improved data and operational security.
Jack Beech, VP Business Development for SoftLayer, an IBM Company, commented: “As we roll out more hybrid cloud services to our customers, the security and reliability of the network connection is key to ensuring success. Working with Colt to roll-out Direct Link to our European customers, gives enterprises access to the highest performing cloud infrastructure available.”

Gary Moore, Business Development Director at Colt, noted: “As enterprises come to rely on the benefits of cloud architectures, such as scalability and development agility, IT departments are placing more business-critical and customer-data-dependent applications into cloud  – and recognise the need to work with a supplier they can trust. Colt’s collaboration with IBM offers enterprise users access to secure and flexible cloud services, enabling them to scale out to the cloud in a reliable manner.”

IBM’s Direct Link services come in three distinct offerings—Cloud Exchange, Network Service Provider (NSP), and Colocation—all designed to give enterprises faster and more consistent network performance, higher data security, as well as hybrid cloud deployment options including direct access to multiple cloud service providers.
