UK Cloud alive and kicking

IT industry analyst firm The METISfiles has released the inaugurate version of the UK Public Cloudscape. Designed to highlight the local UK SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS provider ecosystem, the UK Cloudscape provides a snapshot of who the most important UK cloud providers are and in which cloud segments and categories they specialize.

Version 1.0 visualizes 191 UK cloud providers of which 16% are active in more than one segment or category, resulting in a total of 224 entries. SaaS is the most popular segment with 71% of entries. 25% of entries are IaaS providers and only 4% offer PaaS services.

Within the SaaS segment, Communications is the leading SaaS offering with 21% of SaaS vendors. CRM commands a 13% share of SaaS followed by Online Workspace (11%), Finance/ERP (10%), HRM (6%), Collaboration (6%) and Digital Marketing (4%). The “other” segment (29%) has a wide variety of specialisations of which Time Management, Document Management and Risk Management are popular categories.

48% of IaaS providers also offer Online Workspace and/or Communications solutions. “We expect IaaS, Online Workspace and Communication offerings to merge into a broader infrastructure category in the future” says METISfiles analyst Pim Bilderbeek. “We also expect the number of UK cloud providers to grow as an increasing number of businesses is embracing public cloud solutions.”
