Developing AI: Legrand's data centre at Yerevan State University

Legrand has delivered a digital infrastructure solution for an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre at Yerevan State University, Armenia’s premier university. The facility includes a supercomputer equipped with 64 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, funded by the government to support Armenia’s AI and high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities.

The infrastructure is designed to support advanced research, innovation, and the development of educational capabilities across the country.

The facility was officially opened in the presence of Armenia’s Prime Minister and other representatives. The data centre was developed to meet Yerevan State University’s requirements for a scalable, energy-efficient environment capable of supporting advanced AI and HPC workloads while allowing for future expansion.

Following a competitive tender process, Legrand was awarded the €3 million project. The company was responsible for designing and delivering an integrated data centre infrastructure that met European safety and efficiency standards.

Located within existing university facilities, the installation presented several challenges, including limited space, low ceilings, and complex routing requirements. Legrand coordinated the integration of power protection, electrical distribution, cooling, IT racks, and intelligent monitoring systems to support reliable operation.

The data centre was designed, verified, and delivered within six months. The on-site installation phase was completed in one month and included system setup, maintenance provisions, and power connections.

Working with ART-Group, a certified Legrand partner in Armenia, Legrand completed the system integration for the project. The installation has contributed to further Legrand data centre projects in the region, including developments in financial services and AI facilities.

Legrand’s regional engineering team supported the project delivery, with Arsen Pogossian overseeing the Zucchini busbar system installation, Alexey Ryizhenkov conducting insulation testing, and Igor Dmitriev providing UPS maintenance support.
