Johnson Controls acquires Alloy Enterprises enhancing thermal management expertise

Johnson Controls has signed an agreement to acquire Alloy Enterprises. Johnson Controls is a global company focused on energy efficiency and mission-critical performance, while Alloy Enterprises, founded in 2020, specialises in next-generation thermal management platforms for high-performance data centres. The transaction is intended to strengthen Johnson Controls’ position in the data centre cooling segment.

Alloy Enterprises operates in the fields of thermal, mechanical and materials sciences and has developed a proprietary platform featuring advanced direct liquid cooling components. These components are designed to improve thermal management efficiency by up to 35% by enabling faster heat removal and reducing pressure drop. The approach is intended to improve fluid flow and lower overall energy consumption in cooling systems.

The acquisition reflects Johnson Controls’ strategy to address the increasing demands of compute infrastructure by enhancing the efficiency of its thermal management technologies. The integration of Alloy’s capabilities introduces a manufacturing process aimed at improving liquid cooling performance for components such as GPUs, CPUs and network interfaces. This complements Johnson Controls’ existing portfolio, which includes:

• The YDAM magnetic bearing chiller, which provides a 20% increase in capacity density.
• The YK-HT two-stage economised centrifugal chiller, which requires fewer dry coolers and has a broad operating range.
• The Silent-Aire Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) platform, offering scalable cooling capacities.
• The YHAU absorption chillers, which recover waste heat with high efficiency.

Through this acquisition, Johnson Controls intends to support higher standards in cooling efficiency and provide integrated technologies that help customers reduce time to deployment. The collaboration is also positioned as reinforcing its focus on innovation in advanced thermal management solutions.

The combination of Johnson Controls and Alloy Enterprises is expected to address ongoing challenges in mission-critical data centre environments and support continued development in cooling technologies.
