In a transformative move for its AI strategy, Palo Alto Networks has agreed to acquire Chronosphere, a cutting-edge observability platform engineered for the escalating data demands of the AI era. This acquisition promises to bolster Palo Alto Networks' capacity to assist organisations in navigating the complexities of a unified data and security infrastructure required by modern applications and AI workloads.
The demand for unyielding uptime and resilience in AI platforms necessitates real-time, always-on observability — precisely the domain where Chronosphere excels. The platform's next-generation architecture, designed with scalability and cost-efficiency at its core, has already demonstrated its prowess with some of the industry's leading AI innovators, including prominent large language model developers.
By merging Chronosphere's specialised architecture capable of supporting substantial and intricate digital landscapes with Palo Alto Networks' AgentiX, this integration is set to shift observability from a mere monitoring role to a pioneering autonomous remediation platform. AI agents powered by Chronosphere's ample data pool will move beyond simply detecting performance deficiencies; they will autonomously tackle root causes, facilitating proactive solutions with agentic remediation.
This collaboration offers customers an opportunity to attain comprehensive visibility across both security and observability data, all at petabyte scales. The economical benefits are expected to be substantial, thanks to Chronosphere's optimised data ingestion features.
Chronosphere has been hailed as a leader by the Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Observability Platforms in 2025, and will further enrich Palo Alto Networks' capabilities with state-of-the-art telemetry pipelines. These will drive enhanced data transformation and cost-effective data routing, making significant-scale data management practical and affordable.
The acquisition, valued at $3.35 billion, will be fulfilled through cash and replacement equity awards, contingent upon regulatory approvals. Upon completion, expected in Palo Alto Networks' second half of fiscal 2026, Chronosphere will enhance its financial position with a reported annual recurring revenue (ARR) exceeding $160 million as of September 2025, showcasing remarkable year-over-year triple-digit growth.
In essence, this strategic acquisition reaffirms Palo Alto Networks' commitment to empowering its clients with unparalleled AI-driven observability and security solutions, poised to address the formidable challenges of the digital age.
