Introducing Vertiv PowerIT Rack PDUs for evolving data centre demands

Vertiv unveils new PowerIT rack PDUs to cater to data-intensive workloads like AI and HPC, enhancing power management and ensuring data centre reliability.

Vertiv, a prominent name in critical digital infrastructure, has unveiled its latest innovation: the Vertiv™ PowerIT rack power distribution units (PDUs). This addition to the Vertiv PowerIT line aims to cater to the rising power demands of data-intensive tasks, including artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

The new PDUs offer advanced power management features, versatile configurations, and updated internal components designed to boost reliability. For data centres facing growing IT demands, these units facilitate seamless power scaling, efficiently supporting power densities exceeding 25 kW per rack.

Designed to meet the needs of modern data centres, the Vertiv PowerIT rack PDU uses three-phase power distribution across both 208V Delta, prevalent in North America, and 240/415V WYE configurations, seen in EMEA and international markets. This method balances electrical loads across phases, thus reducing circuit overload risks, stabilising voltage, and enhancing system reliability.

“The growing adoption of AI and HPC applications is driving unprecedented power demands in data centres. Vertiv™PowerIT rack PDU demonstrates our commitment to meeting these evolving needs with an end-to-end portfolio" said Andrea Ferro, VP power & IT systems for Vertiv in EMEA. "By providing solutions specifically engineered for high-density computing, we're enabling our EMEA and global customers to efficiently scale their power infrastructure while maintaining the reliability and flexibility needed for next-generation data centres.”

These rack PDUs enable precise, real-time energy management through their monitored and switched models. Built for rugged performance, they're engineered to function optimally in conditions reaching up to 140°F (60°C) and 95% humidity. The switched models, particularly, provide remote outlet-level control, swift deployment modifications, and increased protection for crucial IT infrastructure.

For enhanced security, monitored versions feature the Secure Boot security protocol, unique to Vertiv, safeguarding the integrity of the network card's firmware against unauthorised tampering. Customers are offered flexibility through configure-to-order and engineered-to-order options, allowing them to tailor their PDUs by choosing outlet configurations, input options, and even chassis colours.

Lastly, the PDUs come with the Vertiv™ Distribution Assurance Package. This comprehensive package ensures seven-year coverage, round-the-clock emergency response, on-site, and remote assistance, further bolstering data centre reliability and uptime.
