Aberlour Child Care Trust chooses Pulsant to provide hosting platform

Pulsant has been selected to provide its Enterprise Cloud solution to Scottish charity Aberlour Child Care Trust. The platform will be hosted in Pulsant’s South Gyle datacentre in Edinburgh and uses the latest HP servers, Cisco networking and VMware virtualisation technology that is deployed on top of the company’s 10gb network.

As an organisation that delivers such critical services and support, having access to data and core systems at all times is a vital requirement. The charity needed to update its legacy infrastructure at its head office and was also looking to reduce costs and increase efficiency as well as move to an OPEX model, which led to it selecting a hosting partner. In addition, Aberlour wanted to bolster its back up capabilities and reduce the complexity of its existing back-up solution.

“Our key systems at our head office in Stirling were on old hardware and we decided the best way forward, in terms of cost, security and resilience, would be to move to a hosted platform. In this way we could take advantage of significant cost savings by employing an OPEX model and also leverage the resources of a hosting partner in delivering a more secure and resilient platform than we could do ourselves, onsite,” says Ros Dowey, IT manager, Aberlour.

Pulsant already supplies connectivity and has an established relationship with the charity.

“Pulsant has an excellent track record when it comes to helping charities reach their business outcomes and this project is the ideal example of this collaboration and how there is no one-size-fits-all cloud solution,” says Ian Appleyard, business development executive, Pulsant. “We worked with Aberlour in defining the requirements and developing a solution that best met them — from the cloud solution itself, to backup and the colocation aspect of the project.”
