Following a detailed audit of Solihull Council’s data centre, AIT installed a branch circuit monitoring (BCM) solution to monitor additional air conditioning and facilities power loads, integrating this with their current rack power monitoring solution to manage and minimize the running costs of their data centre.
“The AIT team really listened to our needs and then recommended a bespoke solution that fitted our exact requirements with minimum costs for the council”, said Philip Parker, Infrastructure & Data Centre Manager, Solihull Council.
The work also entailed re-running and re-labelling power feeds to cabinets to ensure server racks were feed by two independent A and B feeds, backed up with a uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in case of mains failure.
“We now know our exact data centre efficiency and energy use which allows us to focus on reducing our operating costs,” Tony Daly, Operations Team Supervisor added. “We quickly got to trust AIT’s advice and respect their technical expertise. Their industry knowledge and experience enabled them to recommend the improvements we needed, both to make Solihull Council’s data centre more resilient and to drive down our energy costs over time.”
Solihull Council now boasts a highly resilient, fully monitored data centre, allowing it to provide dependable services at minimal costs for the council.
