Carrenza awarded top Government Digital Service hosting contract

Leading cloud services provider to deliver IaaS hosting for GOV.UK.

Carrenza has signed a contract with the Government Digital Service (GDS) to be one of the primary suppliers hosting GOV.UK. The Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) contract was awarded via the G-Cloud iii Framework, created to deliver fundamental changes in the way the public sector procures and operates ICT.

GDS is a new team within the Cabinet Office whose core purpose is to ensure the Government offers world-class digital products that meet people’s needs. The new GOV.UK portal, which won the prestigious “Design of the Year” award this year, was described by Prime Minister David Cameron as an example of "world class design talent" which enhanced "the modern relationship between the public and government".

Dan Sutherland, CEO of Carrenza said: “Through G-Cloud the UK government is delivering on its commitment to improve the way it spends money on technology. The launch of GOV.UK was a significant milestone in helping to change and improve the way in which government communicates with its customers. I am delighted that Carrenza is now a key part of this, having been selected as a hosting provider to help deliver these flagship government services. The agility and scalability of our infrastructure means we can quickly respond to the most demanding of requirements. Our experience in delivering some of Europe's busiest ecommerce platforms will benefit the Cabinet Office as they continue to look to improve the efficiency of how government IT is delivered.”
