‘Redefining’ environmental control standards

Newly created business will drive innovation in thermal management technology for the data centre.

Emerson Network Power has announced the launch of the Liebert® PDX, the data centre cooling unit for small and medium businesses. Available only in the EMEA region and supported by intelligent remote monitoring and configuration, the Liebert PDX range provides the exceptional energy efficiency with direct and indirect freecooling technologies, backed-up by direct expansion cooling technologies which set new industry standards in terms of efficiency and flexibility.

Liebert PDX is equipped with latest industry technologies to provide full capacity performance and air flow modulation. The range combines the benefits of an electronic expansion valve and the highest efficiency humidifiers, enabling operation in all conditions. It delivers the most accurate, safe and efficient unit operation within data centre environments.

The Liebert PDX range, which features fresh air (direct) freecooling and water (indirect) freecooling, can be deployed across a comprehensive range of data center environments from 30kW to 500kW and beyond. It overtakes the limitations of direct expansion (DX) cooling technology by enabling the operation at temperatures as high as 38 degrees Celsius and reducing the energy consumption up to 30 percent in a real data centre application.
Emerson Network Power’s iCOM™ Control integrates the operations of the indoor unit with outdoor microchannel condensers. The introduction of the Liebert MC, a new product designed and manufactured by Emerson Network Power, enables the system to be optimised to the needs of the customer. Significant energy savings can also be achieved thanks to the capacity for modular deployment of the units, using an integrated Ethernet connection to efficiently monitor and coordinate units within the same data centre space.

Liebert PDX cooling units also provide users with the LIFE™ remote diagnostic technology. This delivers proactive equipment maintenance, reduces downtime and enables comprehensive energy management and planning - which maximises return on investment and increases system availability for the business.

The Liebert PDX range is the latest cooling unit within Emerson Network Power’s newly created Thermal Management business. Encompassing existing Liebert assets and expertise, the Thermal Management business will expand Emerson Network Power’s ability to develop and deliver more holistic, next-generation approaches to controlling the data centre environment. This new Thermal Management business will focus on creating the next generation of data centre cooling infrastructure, covering innovative services, software and hardware which are optimised to reliably, efficiently and cost-effectively control and manage heat.

“The EMEA data centre market is highly diverse, with numerous scales of workload being handled, and an array of differing geographical environments in which facilities are situated,” said Stefano Mozzato, sales director EMEA thermal management for Emerson Network Power. “With Liebert PDX we are bringing to market a freecooling product with maximum energy efficiency in mind, but which offers enterprise-standard reliability through the back-up of advanced direct expansion cooling. The remote management and configuration of these products will give businesses of all sizes an unprecedented level of efficient thermal management.”
