Q-PAC is developing an airflow tunnel designed for testing multimotor plenum fans and related HVAC systems. The facility aims to enable full-scale performance testing of multimotor fan configurations, providing system-level performance data.
The tunnel is designed to replicate operational failure scenarios, including motor downtime, allowing testing of system resilience and performance changes under different operating conditions. It is capable of testing up to 70,000 CFM across a range of installation types.
The project includes certification to the AMCA 270 standard for multimotor system airflow performance testing. The tunnel has also been designed with future AHRI 430 compliance considerations for OEMs, engineers, and facility designers.
The airflow tunnel includes sixteen supply fans to support high airflow rates and simulate operational conditions for multimotor systems. The design allows testing of configurations beyond single- or dual-fan arrangements.
The tunnel measures 30 feet in length and has a 144-square-foot cross-sectional area to accommodate full-scale systems and varying CFM conditions. Sixteen individually controlled differential pressure nozzles are used for airflow measurement across different test scenarios. The facility supports both push and pull-through testing under positive and negative pressure conditions.
The tunnel is designed for static pressure testing up to 12 in. w.c. It also includes removable supply fan sections and interior access doors to support maintenance and equipment repositioning for different testing requirements.
Automation has been integrated into the system to reduce manual intervention and support repeatable testing processes. The sixteen-fan configuration allows testing of complex multimotor system interactions and system performance under a range of operating conditions.
