Doha IX expands connectivity between Qatar and global internet exchanges

Qatar’s Doha IX and DE-CIX have expanded their collaboration to improve connectivity between local and international internet exchange networks.

Ooredoo and DE-CIX have expanded the Doha IX Internet Exchange through a direct connection to DE-CIX Marseille, linking Qatar’s commercial Internet Exchange to additional international networks, including access via DE-CIX Frankfurt in Europe.

The connection enables data exchange with nearly 120 networks in Marseille and access to a wider ecosystem of close to 1,100 networks connected through DE-CIX Frankfurt. It also supports access to cloud and connectivity services that are not currently available locally in Qatar.

Launched last year and operated under the DE-CIX as a Service model within Ooredoo’s data centre, Doha IX has expanded its network of participants. Connected networks can interconnect locally and also remotely through Marseille, providing access to hyperscalers, cloud platforms, content networks, and internet service providers.

Services such as DE-CIX DirectCLOUD are available at Doha IX, enabling private connectivity to cloud providers including AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, IBM Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud. The DE-CIX Cloud ROUTER service also supports direct data exchange between cloud environments with a focus on lower latency and cost efficiency in hybrid and multi-cloud setups.

The interconnection between Doha IX and DE-CIX Marseille is intended to support improved regional and international connectivity and contribute to Qatar’s digital infrastructure development. It aims to enhance network performance for internet-based applications by linking local infrastructure with the broader DE-CIX ecosystem.

As part of Ooredoo’s service portfolio, Doha IX also provides access to services including Microsoft Azure Peering Service (MAPS), IP Transit, Multi-Cloud Connect, Google VPP, hosting, colocation, business internet, precision timing, and international connectivity.
