Spectra Logic and Geyser Data have established a tape-as-a-service archive deployment in London. This marks the first European location available via the Geyser Data portal, expanding the service beyond its existing Los Angeles deployment.
The tape-as-a-service model is designed to address cost variability associated with traditional cloud storage. As organisations move cold data to cloud environments, they can encounter costs such as retrieval fees, egress charges and API usage. While some organisations use on-premises tape libraries for more predictable storage economics, Geyser Data provides an alternative through cloud-based archive infrastructure with a defined pricing model.
Spectra Logic provides the tape library infrastructure and core archive technologies, while Geyser Data delivers the software platform. The service is accessed through an Amazon S3-compatible interface, enabling a consistent approach to archive storage and retrieval.
The London deployment is hosted in a Digital Realty facility, providing a carrier-neutral environment with connectivity options to support data transfer and archive workflows. The setup is intended to support local service providers managing infrastructure, while enabling channel partners to deliver archiving services to customers.
The London site forms part of Geyser Data’s broader expansion strategy, alongside partnerships in other regions, including Brazil, where additional deployments are planned.
Customers can access archive services in either London or Los Angeles through the Geyser Data portal, with a free 30-day trial available for both locations.
