Leaseweb expands work on European sovereign cloud initiatives

Leaseweb showcases advancements in Europe’s sovereign cloud through its European Cloud Campus project, enhancing cloud capabilities and industry collaborations.

Leaseweb, a cloud services and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider, has referenced the increasing relevance of Europe’s sovereign cloud initiatives. This is part of its European Cloud Campus project, which is included in the Important Projects of Common European Interest on Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI-CIS) programme.

Over the past year, Leaseweb has expanded its cloud capabilities and increased engagement with the developer and partner ecosystem, reflecting a shift from policy-focused discussions toward the development of practical sovereign cloud infrastructure. Key developments include a scalable cloud offering, with the public cloud compute layer now supporting autoscaling and load balancing. In addition, private network storage has been completed to support improved security and efficiency.

Work is also ongoing on architectural enhancements, including programmable virtual overlay networking to improve network flexibility. Leaseweb has released an initial compute API with open definitions, along with a Terraform provider to support automation and developer integration. Platform monitoring, management tools, and internal management interfaces have also been introduced and continue to evolve.

In 2025, Leaseweb engaged with the wider cloud and infrastructure community through participation in and hosting of industry events such as the Leaseweb Tech Summit, the Cloud Resilience Roundtable, and the World Open Innovation Conference 2025. These events included discussions with partners, developers, and experts on the development of European cloud infrastructure and digital sovereignty.

The company also contributed to open-source projects during 2025, reflecting ongoing collaboration between industry participants and technology providers in the context of sovereign cloud initiatives.
