AtNorth, a premier Nordic high-density collocation and bespoke data centre provider, has announced a significant expansion of Crusoe Cloud's capacity at its ICE02 data centre in Iceland. This initiative, in collaboration with Crusoe, a pioneering vertically integrated AI infrastructure provider, aims to cater to the growing demand for Crusoe Cloud services from diverse customers across Europe and North America.
Initially, the partnership, unveiled in December 2023, laid out plans for 33MW of capacity at ICE02. The latest collaboration extends this with an additional 24MW, marking a pivotal component in Crusoe's European strategy. The data centre already boasts low-latency networks and multiple undersea fibre optic cables, ensuring reliable international market access.
The augmentation also integrates next-generation infrastructure, including the installation of NVIDIA GB200 NVL72, NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, and NVIDIA Hopper GPUs, positioning ICE02 ahead in the generative AI landscape.
Powered entirely by renewable energy sources, ICE02 has adopted Direct Liquid to Chip (DLC) cooling technology, underscoring commitment from both companies to low carbon operations. Crusoe's CEO, Chase Lochmiller, emphasised the significance of this sustainable infrastructure, highlighting the use of Iceland's abundant geothermal and hydroelectric energy for demanding AI workloads on Crusoe Cloud.
Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth, expressed enthusiasm for Crusoe's client success and the partnership's new phase. By incorporating advanced infrastructure and energy-efficient cooling technology, the expansion aligns with both companies' sustainability objectives, supporting Crusoe's journey to decarbonise and provide AI-ready solutions responsibly.
AtNorth is attuned to the rising demand for sustainable AI-ready data centres. Its modular design supports scalability and flexibility necessary for today’s complex workloads. Recent collaborations, notably with Nokia and 6G AI Sweden AB, underscore client expectations to balance premier technology with environmental stewardship, reinforcing atNorth's dedication to delivering state-of-the-art, sustainable data campuses.
