In a landmark announcement, Vantage Data Centers, a prominent global player in hyperscale data centres, has unveiled its most significant investment yet. $25 billion will be channelled into the creation of a vast 1.4GW data centre campus named "Frontier" in Shackelford County, Texas. This project is set to drive AI innovations and boost employment by creating over 5,000 jobs during its construction and operational phases.
Spanning an impressive 1,200 acres, the Frontier campus will be the crown jewel in Vantage's global portfolio. The site will boast 10 cutting-edge data centres covering a total of 3.7 million square feet. These facilities will have the capability to accommodate ultra high-density racks of 250kW+. To meet the advancing demands of AI deployments, the campus will incorporate liquid cooling technology to effectively manage next-generation GPU loads. Construction is already underway, with the initial building anticipated to be ready in the latter half of 2026.
The Frontier campus is designed with sustainability at its core, adhering to Vantage’s "sustainable by design" blueprint. It will prioritise conservation efforts, utilising a highly efficient closed-loop chiller system that demands minimal water consumption, saving billions of gallons each year. Vantage is also in the process of securing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for Frontier.
Strategically positioned in Texas, Vantage’s Frontier campus aims to meet the escalating requirements of AI providers. It represents a significant economic boon for the state, delivering on Vantage’s commitment to establishing robust digital infrastructure to support AI solutions.
“...the launch of our Frontier campus with 1.4GW of GPU compute capacity marks a watershed moment for Vantage as we deliver on our promise to meet the unprecedented requirements of our customers,” said Dana Adams, president of North America, at Vantage Data Centers.
“Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes innovation and technology,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “Vantage Data Centers’ $25 billion investment to build a new data centre campus will help create thousands of good-paying jobs for Texans and bring revenue to the local and state economies. Partnering with job-creating and innovative businesses like Vantage, Texas will continue to be a national and global leader in this emerging frontier.”
Beyond its technological ambitions, Vantage is dedicated to fostering community partnerships. Collaborating with general contractors, trade partners, local organisations, and educational institutions, the company plans to create a shared value throughout Texas. This commitment encompasses financial contributions to local charities, annual college scholarships for Shackelford County students, and an emphasis on local hiring accompanied by extensive training programmes.
This monumental Texas initiative follows Vantage's substantial $3 billion July investment in the development of a 224MW campus in Storey County, Nevada.
