Nearly half of European data centres have no energy efficiency objectives in place

Research, commissioned by The Green Grid, has found that while the majority of organisations are facing growing pressures to improve the efficiency of their data centres, 43 per cent of those surveyed have no energy efficiency objectives in place. Furthermore, 97 per cent felt that they could improve their monitoring capabilities.  This disconnect between goals and an understanding of the measures needed to make effective change, puts the ability of organisations to manage their IT (Information Technology) resources at risk.

New research from The Green Grid has found that despite nine in ten IT leaders acknowledging the importance of data centres in contributing to corporate social responsibility (CSR) achievement, nearly half of organisations do not define energy efficiency – reducing the ability to analyse how data centres can impact overall CSR strategy.
“Norway has a unique foundation for becoming the world's most attractive data center nation. We have a surplus of renewable energy, low electricity prices, good digital infrastructure and a cool climate. The Government is now strengthening its commitment to a sustainable data center industry. This will create many new jobs in the regions and help develop new digital services throughout the country," says Minister of Regional Development and Digitalisation Linda Hofstad Helleland.
